Rural Cabin No. 1

The concept of storytelling (or story making) is at the heart of the design for this small cabin. Consisting of a single rectangular volume projecting over a hillside, the structure allows the outdoors to be as much a part of the design as the indoors. At just over 400 square feet, this cabin is essentially a "tiny home" embedded into the forest landscape. Key sustainability strategies include a composting toilet, rainwater collection and purification system, passive solar gain, natural ventilation, and provisions for a future photovoltaic system which would allow this building to function completely off the grid.
